Intellectual Property Office (IPO), the Ministry of Economic Affairs recently announced that the Administrative Guideline of Anti-Counterfeiting Committee would cease to be applicable since January 1, 2006 and the Anti-Counterfeiting Committee would pass into history with remarkable success.

Constituted on March 13, 1981, Anti-Counterfeiting Committee has functioned for 25 years.  In addition to handling the reported counterfeit cases, Anti-Counterfeiting Committee has been mainly responsible to formulate and activate anti-counterfeiting action plans and to coordinate and enhance the anti-counterfeiting work initiated by public prosecutors’ offices and the police and investigation offices. Anti-Counterfeiting Committee has made a substantial contribution to the government’s IPR protection mechanism.

The establishment of the IPR police on January 1, 2003 marks an important milestone in the sustainable efforts to protect IP rights and to contain anti-counterfeiting activities.  The task of Anti-Counterfeiting Committee is in turn undertaken by IPR police and ends with prominent achievements in the end of 2005.
