Au Optronics Corp. succeeds in trial run, first TFT-LCD of fifth-generation fab coming out

　On December 24, 2002 AU Optronics Corp. exhibited the semi-finished product for the first TFT-LCD successfully made by the fifth-generation fab under trial run.  The fifth-generation fab of AU Optronics Corp. is anticipated to carry out the commercial production in the second quarter of 2003 as expected.

　Since its fifth-generation fab started the equipment installation in October, 2002, AU Optronics Corp. has succeeded in making the semi-finished product for the first 1100mmx1250mm TFT-LCD under trial run in December and also exhibited its achievement in public on December 24.  As it is rumored in the industry that Samsung fifth-generation fab has got poor yield rate, AU Optronics Corp. proclaims its determination to have the locally first and globally third fifth-generation fab to achieve the goal of commercial production and to upgrade its monthly output from 30,000 pcs to 50,000 pcs dramatically.
