Customs officer Take Classes for identifying Genuine and Counterfeit products.

In order to implement government’s activity of protecting intellectual property right and upgrade the ability to identify genuine and counterfeit products, Keelung Customs officers held “Training for identifying genuine and counterfeit CASIO calculators and cigarettes,” inviting Casio Taiwan, JTI, and Empire Tobacco Company to attend this training and give demonstrations.

 

The first class was given by professional technician of Casio Taiwan, the technician explained exclusive trademark and registration certificate of Casio calculator and provided method for identification; for example, there are no “CE” key of eliminating enter on genuine product, only “C” key or “AC” key. Besides, the mark of the certificate of origin of genuine product is directly carved on plastic body of calculator, but counterfeits uses another label of origin. Further, positions of keys of genuine product are all straight or horizontal design without oval design, and there are no shell of genuine product are in blue-and-white design, all of them are all black, all gray, or all white shell without simplified Chinese character.

 

JTI indicated that over 85 percent of counterfeit cigarettes are manufactured in China, the problem of rampant counterfeit cigarettes not only threaten the development of tobacco industry, but also influence the country’s tax revenue. Besides, disqualified cigarettes may contain toxic substances and would be detrimental to customer’s health. Identifying illegal cigarettes could be depend on print quality of cellophane paper of the box, the manner of code of date of manufacture, color of cigarette case, specification of cigarettes, and packing, etc. (2005.3)
