Executive Yuan to Broaden the Scope of Animal/Plant IP Protection to Stimulate Agricultural R&D.

  To encourage agricultural technology R&D, enhance the added value of agricultural products, and to transform agricultural economic system into enterprise management, the “Biotech Industry Steering Committee” established by the Executive Yuan has made a significant decision to follow the international trend towards patent protection, to broaden animal/plant IP protection in its scope, and thus to upgrade the biotech industry in Taiwan.

  Council of Agriculture will establish a responsible taskforce and is scheduled to scheme out the measures in regard to farmer’s exemption, research exemption, compulsory licensing, and law harmonization before the end of 2005 and will amend relevant law provisions. (2005.8)
