The Ministry of Economic Affairs held a meeting at the end of 2004 on the formulation and promotion of national intellectual property management standards.  Previously, Taiwan IPO entrusted the Institute for Information Industry (III) to conduct the relevant research and draw up the draft standards.  In conclusion of the above MOEA meeting, a Taiwan Intellectual Property Management System (TIPS) and the relevant national standards will be formulated based on the III-proposed draft standards for the businesses to follow in tailoring their own IP management system to materialize the visibility and commercial viability of their IP assets.

For this year, 2005, the Industrial Development Bureau joined by the III’s Science & Technology Law Center selected eight key businesses as the pilot users of the TIPS.  The pilot users’ experience will be employed to promote the general application of the TIPS to help local businesses develop an IP management system of their own to retain, build up and capitalize the successful outcome of their R&D efforts.  Further, by obtaining the national standards certification, the businesses will have their IP assets externally recognized.  (2005.10)
