Taiwan ranked 12 in the world list of patent applications and ranked 2 among developing countries.

World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) announced the number of worldwide patent applications during the last year. Owing that Taiwan is neither a member of WIPO nor the signatory country of “Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT)”, the number of patent registrations applied by Taiwan was not counted. Nevertheless, the officials of WIPO estimated that Taiwan ranked 12 in the world list of patent applications and ranked 2 among developing countries, simply inferior to Korea. (2004.02)
