According to the statistics released by the US customs, 66% of the counterfeit uncovered in 2003 came from China. Such a high percentage far exceeds 5% from Hong Kong, which ranks 2nd, and 4% from Mexico, which ranks 3rd.

Since China will no longer restrain Chinese enterprise’ import and export from 2005, the US is deeply concerned about whether such policy will deteriorate counterfeiting situation in China, and so are Japan and EU market.

In August 2004, Columbia Broadcasting Station (CBS) especially produced and broadcasted a special program reporting YiWu, Zhejiang, which is notorious for counterfeiting activity. In the wholesale market of YiWu, Zhejiang, a boss of one sports shoes shop unflinchingly promotes that the latest Nike sports shoes can be manufactured in large quantity upon delivery to YiWu, Zhejiang and further sold at the price of USD 4 per pair only.
