Ministry of Economic Affairs brewing TFT national R&D project; Display industry is to challenge yearly output value of three hundred billion NT dollars

In order to fulfill the “two trillion, twin-star” project, which is one of the governmental critical development projects in 2008, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and local manufacturers are brewing a national R&D project intended to consolidate all the technology and science R&D projects from the industrial, official and academic circles and to assist the local display industry to strengthen its ability to train technical and engineering talents.  This project is expected to be invested in with a capital more than three hundred billion NT dollars.

 Additionally, the Industrial Development Bureau will form a patent work team to assist in the patent layout of the display industry like TFT-LCD, which team will also guide manufacturers to develop next generation display technologies and such visual products as televisions with crystal display, so as to strength their competitive power in the world and challenge yearly output value of three hundred billion NT dollars.  Last year, the output of the local large-sized TFT-LCD accounted for 34.7% of the global market share, with the output value amounting to two hundred billion and ninety-five hundred million NT dollars, to make Taiwan become the country with second largest output of TFT-LCD in the world.
