E030104Y6 Mar. 2003(E42)

The Ministry of Economic Affairs yesterday (Jan 3) passed the 3-year “Program to thoroughly protect IP rights” that will be jointly cooperated by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice, etc.  The aforesaid authorities will fulfill the government’s policies in protecting IP rights from various aspects such as the legal systems, educations, executive police power, customs inspections, etc. Besides, the progress of searching pirated products was hindered because of “insufficient space to store loot.” This issue is hopefully to be resolved this March after lease of necessary warehouses and repair of such warehouses is accomplished. At that time, the relevant authorities will be able to start raid actions against piracy activities without trouble back at home. The aforesaid program also maps out the target of using legal software by the Government, the five Yuans and the Presidential Office by the year of 2004.
