To protect the intellectual property rights and the competitiveness of our country, the Executive Yuan passed on June 3 an amendment to the Customs Preventive Statute, which provides for heavy punishment by way of raising punitive fines.  The cap on fines for illegal exporters exporting goods by giving false information in customs declaration is raised from NT$30,000 to NT$1,000,000.  As for goods that have infringed intellectual property rights and are destined for export or import through consignment, mail delivery or being carried by travelers, a fine equal to one to three times the goods price will be imposed, and the goods will also be confiscated so as to effectively deter IPR infringement.
