Taiwan’s Number of Patent Registration in China Rates as the Second One Worldwide.

Quoting the research of Taiwan Institute of Economic Research, the Department of Industrial Technology of the Ministry of Economic Affairs today stated that Taiwanese enterprises’ total number of patents in China and Japan in 2002 rates as the second worldwide, and that their total number of patents approved in the U.S.A. have rated as the fourth in consecutive four years. Such a large number of patents indicates Taiwanese enterprises’ great success. Among all these patents, the number of patent application of Foxconn Electronics Inc. alone in China reaches 1,056 cases.

This research indicates that in major and newly developing industrial technology, Taiwan’s energy of development and innovation mostly centers on the production of semi-conductor. In the case of the index of the “quality” of patent, the time and frequency of citation of patents owned by Taiwanese companies in the U.S.A. largely increase due to the preeminence of the productive techniques of semi-conductor of Taiwan’s patents.

The research of Taiwan Institute of Economic Research finds that Taiwan has performed well in the number, intensity, and density of patents in recent years. Since the world, however, has entered into the age of micro-profit competition, Taiwan has to get rid of the practice of taking the production and product improvement as the main targets of research and development in the past. Taiwan also has to invest more innovation and providence in technique development, and emphasize and strengthen the developing strategies so as to improve the unbalance of technique trading.
