Quoting the research of Taiwan Institute of Economic Research, the Department of Industrial Technology of the Ministry of Economic Affairs today stated that Taiwanese enterprises’ total number of patents in China and Japan in 2002 rates as the second worldwide, and that their total number of patents approved in the U.S.A. have rated as the fourth in consecutive four years. Such a large number of patents indicates Taiwanese enterprises’ great success. Among all these patents, the number of patent application of Foxconn Electronics Inc. alone in China reaches 1,056 cases.
This research indicates that in major and newly developing industrial technology, Taiwan’s energy of development and innovation mostly centers on the production of semi-conductor. In the case of the index of the “quality” of patent, the time and frequency of citation of patents owned by Taiwanese companies in the U.S.A. largely increase due to the preeminence of the productive techniques of semi-conductor of Taiwan’s patents.
