ITC announces no damage caused by Taiwan’s export to US in Micron’s accusation against Taiwan for dumping of SRAM

E020105X6 Feb. 2002(E30)

The ITC announced that Taiwan-based semi-conductor manufacturers’ suspicion of dumping SRAM to US.A. had been confirmed eventually to cause no damage to the US industry; therefore, it is not necessary to impose antidumping tax on the SRAM exported by Taiwan to U. S. A..  This ruling reflects that the suit brought by the US-based semi-conductor manufacturer, Micron Technology, against Taiwan-based semi-conductor manufacturers’ dumping of SRM to U.S.A. is finalized under the ITC’s announcement after prolonging four years.  The US Department of Commerce will revoke the antidumping order against Taiwan manufacturers’ export of SRAM to U.S.A..  According to Taiwan’s relevant manufacturers, they have also paid a heavy price for the suit which cost them about US$200,000 for the four years.

The relevant manufacturers also revealed that after Taiwan’s formal entry to the WTO on January 1, 2002, Taiwan will be able to negotiate for all issues in similar cases under the WTO system and hand the cases over to the WTO for arbitration.  They believe that the damage caused to Taiwan by the accusation against dumping which US-based manufacturers like to make use of as a competitive means can be diluted as far as possible.
