EC rendered the judgment on the dumping from Taiwanese CD-R media; Chinese and Korean companies reversely seek business opportunities in Taiwan

E020114Z5 Feb. 2002(E30)

The suit filed by EC against dumping from Taiwanese CD-R media is already established.  Korea, too, brought an investigation concerning anti-dumping on this occasion.  In such circumstances, Taiwanese manufacturers continue to set up new footholds overseas, which, in return, has initiated a wave of unexpected investment opportunities.  It is understood that Korea-based CD-R media makers and businesses from local industrial zones in Mainland China will visit Taiwan in search of opportunities for joint ventures, resulting in a peculiar investment scenario.

Korea-based makers, on the one hand, start to impose sanction against Taiwan.  On the other, they also come to Taiwan to seek possible partnership based on the mode of cooperation that the Korean side provides manpower, land and mills while we provide the technologies and facilities.  By this type of cooperation, they hope to sustain the life of their industries as well as to solve the issue regarding Taiwanese makers’ selling CD-R media to Korean market.  However, a CD-R maker expressed that Korea’s monthly demand for CD-R media is not strong.

Meanwhile, the Mainland China has not yet abandoned its mono-investment policy.  Therefore, many companies have chosen to center their development on investments in places other than the Mainland China.  As a result, countries and businesses seeking investment opportunities frequent Taiwan for possibilities.
