Amount of money for infringing goods exported from Taiwan to USA declined to 65% last year

The Board of Foreign Trade, MOEA indicated yesterday that the update statistics announced by the Customs Office of the United States Treasury show that the total amount for the infringing goods imported from Taiwan to U.S.A., which were attached by the U.S. customs in the fiscal year of 2001, was US$2,160,000, which declined to 65% comparing with that of 2000.  Meanwhile, according to the statistics, Taiwan regressed to 5th ranking from 2nd ranking among the source countries of counterfeits imported to U.S.A..  This reflects that the measures taken by Taiwan to protect intellectual property rights have achieved significant effects.  Nevertheless, Mainland China is still ranking the 1st place among the source countries of counterfeits imported to U.S.A..  According to the Board of Foreign Trade, the amount of money for infringing goods imported to U.S.A. which were attached by the customs in 2001 totaled US$57,000,000 and the major five source countries of counterfeits are Mainland China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore and Taiwan in order.
