Taiwan publishing industry to establish an international book industry association

E020221Y3 Mar. 2002(E31)

Pirated publications from import or for export have always been a serious problem in Taiwan.  They cause the book industry to lose at least US$50m per year.  Colleges, universities and private cram schools, in particular, are increasingly rampant in copying textbooks.  To combat pirated books, Taiwan International Book Industry Association was officially established yesterday (20), denoting a joint force of 26 publishers and bookmen, foreign and domestic included.  IBIA is committed to promoting the concept of intellectual property and impeding pirated copies.
