Taiwan, Philippines expected to sign reciprocal agreement on customs affairs in April

E020308Y5 Apr. 2002(E32)

In April 2002 Philippines may become the next country following the US signing a reciprocal agreement on customs affairs with us.  In the mean while, the representative of Australian customs has officially invited us to join in the Asia-Pacific anti-smuggling information system organized by the customs of US, Australia, and New Zealand.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the signing of reciprocal agreement on customs affairs and the participation in the anti-smuggling information system both have multiple purposes of upgrading the quality of customs services, combating the unlawful, and maintaining trade order through personnel training, technology cooperation, and information exchange.

It is said that the US has requested us to exchange information on the occasion of signing the US-Taiwan reciprocal agreement on customs affairs recently.  It is understood that the information requested by the US are mostly about IPO infringement and anti-dumping investigations, and specific company lists were provided.  The MOF expressed that we will cooperate in the provision of such information, if such provision does not violation relevant laws of our country.
