Taiwan to be the chairman of the Expert Group on Intellectual Property, APEC

E020326Y5 Apr. 2002(E32)

Limited by political factors, Taiwan has always been unable to participate in WIPO activities. To expand Taiwan’s international participation in IP-related themes for discussion, the Ministry of Economic Affairs aggressively participated in the Expert Group on Intellectual Property, APEC (“IPEG”), and Taiwan won over the throne for chairman.

In the IPEG meeting, the representative from Korea proposed to set up a consulting subcommittee on robotization technology, consisting of countries that have mature technologies for on-line trademark and patent applications, to provide other country members with planning and consulting services. Meanwhile, as the intellectual property offices of various countries all face the problem about long-pending cases, it will be helpful to proceed with examinations in various countries if the countries could share their on-line resources.  However, in addition to the problem about integrating computer systems technically, it is also necessary to overcome the problem about unifying language.
