Taiwan Ranking Third Among Foreigners Acquiring US Patents

The US Patent and Trademark Office announced the patent statistics of 2001 showing that it had issued 183,981 patents in total in 2001.  US acquired 98,594 patents which account for 54% of the total patents, while foreigners acquired 85,387 patents which account for 46% of the total patents.  Among them, Japan ranks the first for acquiring 34,891 patents, Germany the second for acquiring 11,894 patents and Taiwan the third for acquiring 6,544 patents.
