Chi Mei allied with DNP to develop color filter

Chi Mei Corp. confirmed on June 18 that Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp., which is a subsidiary company of Chi Mei Corp., will spend as much as NT$10bn on a co-development project with Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) for the key component of the 5th-generation TFT-LCD, color filter.  The two companies expect to produce such color filter in volume in 2004.  Additionally, the Taiwan-based Chimei-Asahi Corporation, a joint venture between Chi Mei Corporation and Asahi Chemical Industry, is also to spend more than NT$1bn at the end of this year to double its capacity.
