At the same time when scientists warned the global that the risk of developing cancer diseases brought by second-hand smoke is beyond the normal people’s imagination, a US-based major cigarettes manufacturer lost for the first time the suit for damages against second-hand smoke in U.S.A..  The Miami jury demanded on June 18, 2002 that the cigarettes manufacturer should compensate the 56-year old stewardess US$5.5 million for the price of her respiratory disease as a result of the smoke-filled cabin where she has worked for over ten years.  However, the cigarettes manufacturer showed that they would attempt to topple a critical judgment given five years ago by virtue of the loss of this suit.  That judgment specified that the cigarettes manufacturer should allocate US$349 million to reach a settlement with the stewardesses who filed the complaint altogether.
