AU Optronics Received Order Placed by Sony for 17-inch LCD

In light of the LCDs order from Hewlett-Packard Company to be late, the local LCDs manufacturers have aggressively solicited purchasing order from new clients.  Succeeding to HannStar Display Corporation’s success in receiving the purchasing order from NEC for 15-inch notebooks and starting to ship the goods since August, AU Optronics has also prevailed over SamSung Electronics in the competition to get Sony’s order for 17-inch LCDs.

Comparing with AU Optronics and HannStar Display Corporation which aggressively develop their market in Japan, Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp. (CMO), which was a chief supplier of Japan-based technique manufacturers, is going to develop their market in U.S.A.  In view of the  APPLE’s I-MAC desktop computers which have hit the market since January, 2002 and were in a tie-in sale with 15-inch LCDs for the first time, all the LCDs manufacturers, including CMO, are striving very hard to win the order for the 17-inch LCDs of the I-MAC computers to be developed in 2003.
