APC technology to be developed by UMC and AMD cooperatively

UMC and AMD jointly announced on October 9, 2002 U.S. time that they would develop a technology - Advanced Process Control (APC) cooperatively to make12-inch wafer production with more economic effect. This technology will be applied to UMC’s affiliated 12-inch fabrication facilities including the one joint ventured by UMC and AMC in Singapore.
The APC technology will automatize the complicated high-yield production process of semiconductors, assist in reducing cost and increase productivity. Meanwhile, it can provide prompt adjustment of production process according to the need, in which case the profit earned from each wafer will be enhanced.
