The Ministry of Economic Affairs obtained, from this country’s representative offices in the U.S., a report indicating that the U.S. Customs is likely to announce in recent days statistical data about counterfeit imported goods seized in the first half fiscal year of 2002. The value of the goods seized from this country is about US$ 2.54 million, ranking the 2nd among various countries and just after Mainland China who remains to rank the 1st.

Among this country’s goods seized by the U.S. Customs, most of the goods are optical media and mainly CDs. Their value is 79% of the total amount of money of the goods seized from this country. In 2001, optical media ranked the 3rd on the list of the seized cases against this country. The rate against total amount of money was 13%.  In future negotiations between this country and the U.S., this country will certainly take extremely great pressure from the U.S. who may demand this country to enforce the Optical Disk Law more strictly.
