Microsoft Resolved to Set Up First Asian Technology Center in Taiwan

   On October 23, 2002 Microsoft announced that they are going to set up their first Asian technology center (Microsoft Technology Center) in Taiwan.  Microsoft scheduled to invest 800,000,000 dollars in three years at the first phase.  The technology center will be their third global technology center following those set up in London of UK and Munich of Germany.  The center is anticipated to be finished in six months and will be very helpful to Taiwan’s software industry.  In the next three years, Microsoft will set up three Microsoft.NET research centers jointly with the local universities or research institutions.  So far Microsoft has resolved to cooperate with the National Taiwan University and National Chiao Tung University.

 

   The first Microsoft.NET research center will be set up in the National Taiwan University, which is scheduled to provide researches and educational environment for the areas of mobile, wireless communication, WEB Services and Chinese speech technology.  By virtue of the intensive cooperation and exchange of information with Microsoft Asian research centers, it will be helpful to the training of the local information technology talents.
