United Kingdom and Taiwan Entered Into Agreement for Exemption of Double Tax

    The Director General of British Trade and Culture Office, Mr. David Coates, and Mr. Zheng Wen-hua (鄭文華) of Taipei Representative Office entered into, on behalf of their respective countries, the Agreement for exemption of double tax between United Kingdom and Taiwan on April 8, 2002 in London.  The Agreement was eventually entered into after two years’ negotiations.  United Kingdom finally agreed to sign the Agreement, which is supplied with legal effect, with Taiwan.  According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Agreement reflects an important development in the substantial bilateral relations between United Kingdom and Taiwan.  Meanwhile, it is also helpful for attracting UK-based companies to invest in Taiwan.

    The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also indicated that the Agreement was the 17th general tax agreement among those which Taiwan has entered into with various countries, which was also the 3rd general tax agreement signed by Taiwan in Europe.  The Agreement will be helpful for improving the exchange of economy, trading, investment, culture, arts, technology and staff between the both countries and, therefore, will produce positive effect on improvement of the substantial relations between the both countries.
