IPR Protection Measures Reinforced at Customs. Cargo Exported by or Consigned to Blacklist Trading Companies Locked for Inspection.

E060913Y6 Oct. 2006(E83)

As part of the anti-counterfeiting and anti-smuggling law enforcement efforts, Customs has aimed for the cargos consigned to or to be exported by blacklist local trading companies as targets for inspection.  A blacklist local trading company means a company whose address also serves as the registered address of a number of other companies or whose responsible person bears a prior record of smuggling goods.

In line with the government’s IPR protection policy, Customs offices are instructed to strengthen Customs checks of inbound and outbound cargos to bar imports and exports of counterfeit goods and pirated copies of copyright.  Customs has built up a risk management database based on the record of Customs inspection and has identified and made out a list of trading companies as principals of cargo inspection.

According to Customs, among the IPR infringement cases busted over the first half of 2006, 126 cases are trademark infringement cases involving importation of counterfeit goods with the counterfeits impounded amounting to 1,289,000 pieces including, mainly, cigarettes, leather goods, garment, wristwatches and cosmetics, and 20 cases are copyright infringement cases with the pirated copies impounded including mainly popular motion pictures and video games.  (2006.9)
