97 IPR Cases Filed in the First Month of Operation of The IP Court.

E080801Y6 Sep. 2008(E106)

The IP Court accepted to adjudicate a total of 97 cases from 1 through 31 July 2008, its first month of operation.  The cases filed include 48 administrative actions, 25 criminal actions, 19 civil actions and 5 civil appeals with a notably high number of criminal cases and administrative actions outnumbering civil actions.  According to the IP Court spokesman, this is probably due to the time limit for action as an appeal taken from an appellate administrative decision or a criminal judgment entered by the trial court must be brought to IP Court within two months and ten days respectively.  The civil cases entertained by the IP Court include actions initiated and the first appeal where the plaintiff who brought the action may decide the action timetable at his/her own will.  Many are possibly staying watching how the new court system can and will work.  (2008.8)
