The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has established a joint inspection group with the purpose of inspecting irregular imported commodities with irregular labeling.  These commodities include those bearing false labeling of place of origin (i.e. false labeling or incomplete labeling), bearing false product name, bearing labeling indicating false content, abnormal quality and violation of IP rights (i.e. trademark violation, copyright violation).

The MOEA stated that the inspection group is established jointly by Bureau of Standards, Metrology & Inspection, Department of Commerce, the Central Region Office of the MOEA, Bureau of Foreign Trade, the IP Office, municipal, city and county government agencies, National Police Agency of the Ministry of the Interior, and the IP Rights Police Team.  In addition, seven branch groups (Taipei, Keelung, Hsinchu, Taichung, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Hualien) are set up to be responsible for the task of respective regional inspection.

The MOEA pointed out that the joint inspection will be responsible for three inspection tasks:  special inspection, random inspection, and regular inspection.  The responsible enforcement agency will conduct special inspection in conjunction with the relevant agencies on the specific intelligence received and, where no specific intelligence is available, random inspection of the selected goods of the most affected local industries or sector.  Furthermore, at least one to two selected items of goods or geographical areas will be inspected regularly on a monthly basis.  (2010.05)
