Otaku culture has become an important driver of the development of entertainment industry and cross-strait market.  According to the Director General of Taiwan Industrial Development Bureau, with the rise of Otaku economy, the output value of Taiwan’s digital content industry is expected to hit NTD700 billion in year 2013 and the industrial investment is to soar to NTD100 billion within the future four years.

Taiwan Executive Yuan approved the “Digital Content Industry Development Project” on July 15, 2010.  This Project aims at promoting Taiwan’s competitive industries, such as, digital games, animation, digital video & audio, and commercial use of digital archives, and also market expansion to the emerging markets in China and Southeast Asia.  It forms an anticipation that there will be an increase of 31,500 job vacancies in digital content industry and the output value in international cooperation may rise to NTD14 billion dollars.

As Chinese language has become one of the most important languages in the cyberworld, Taiwan, influenced by the mergence of eastern and western culture and thus characterized by diverse life perspectives, should take this advantage to create a cross-strait cooperation structure.

The key points of this Project:
1. construct a complete industrial value chain by software/hardware integration
2. promote international market development, cross-strait interaction and cooperation, and build up cross-strait common standards
3. encourage culture and creative industry investment, contribute to establishment of “co-production project” for cross-sectoral cooperation, and help participation of government funds and non-government investment into culture and creative industry investment
4. facilitate academic-research integration and enhance talents cultivation.
