Direct international flights between Taipei’s Songshan Airport and Tokyo’s Haneda Airport commenced on October 30, 2010.  The resumption of Songshan-Haneda flights is expected to provide more convenient aviation services and boost tourist and economic ties between Taiwan and Japan.

Japan’s former Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe took the Haneda-Songshan flight provided by All Nippon Airways to participate in the route opening ceremony, indicating that he is more than happy to witness the reopening of Taipei Songshan-Tokyo Haneda route, which he believes, would strengthen Taiwan-Japan interactions and ties.

According to the Civil Aeronautics Administration of Taiwan’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications, four carriers will serve the daily regular eight round-trip flights between Songshan and Haneda—China Airlines, EVA Airways, Japan Airlines, and All Nippon Airways, with each one to offer two flights a day.  Songshan-Haneda route would take about 2 hours and 45 minutes and Haneda-Songshan route, 3 hours and 45 minutes, which forms a flight time almost the same with that between Taoyuan International Airport and Narita Airport, while it saves around three hours in traveling time by road and also NTD1,000 to 2,000 in transportation fare.  A circuit connecting Northeast Asia’s major metropolitan areas of Taiwan and Japan is now being formed.  (2010.10)
