TWD3.9 Billion to Turn Taiwan The World’s Chinese-language Digital Content Exchange.

As part of its Digital Content Week program, the MOEA invited major suppliers from over 100 countries (including Japan, Korea, China, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Thailand and HK) to join various industrial forums, technical and business exchange meetings, exhibitions in Taiwan to discuss possible collaboration and procurement projects with a view to increasing foreign investment in Taiwan.  President of the China-based Shanda Game who controls China’s largest venture capital fund with respect to digital content was also present.  Chinese game operators looked forward to meaningful discussions concerning product licensing, distributorship and/or joint development project with their counterpart on this side of the Taiwan Strait and vice versa.

Taiwan, Japan and Korea take turn to host the annual Digital Content Forum and Taiwan is the host of the forum this year, which is the 7th.  The three countries signed a Taiwan-Japan-Korea Digital Content Community Memorandum of Understanding last year (2009) according to which, digital publication and electronic books were determined as the theme for this year.  The three countries look forward to common understanding on standardized format for digital content, cross-licensing, increased cooperation and investment in conclusion of the forum this year to upgrade the development of each national digital content industry and joint development of the Asian market.  The forum represents not only significant exchange by and among the relevant government agencies regarding policies and actions but also an important platform where international business and market development match.    

Taiwan’s digital content industry as a whole attains a total value of TWD460.3 billion for 2009 with substantial growth in the sectors of game, animation, video, digital learning and digital publication, representing an average growth of 35.6% over the previous year.  The government expects to put in a total of TWD3.886 billion over the period from 2009 to 2014 to execute the Digital Content Industry Development Flagship Plan to make Taiwan the world’s Chinese-language digital content exchange.  (2010.10)
