2010 Taiwan Business Alliance Conference --- 27 Multinational Enterprises Invest More Than $100 Billion.

To deal with the upcoming of post-ECFA era, Ministry of Economic Affairs held a conference entitled “2010 Taiwan Business Alliance Conference-New era New opportunities” on 21 September 2010 and invited more than 600 delegates from overseas Chinese and foreign enterprises, Taiwanese enterprises, Mainland China enterprises and relevant industry-government-academic-research sectors to attend the Conference. Moreover, 27 international enterprises (including 8 U.S.-based enterprises, 6 Japan-based enterprises, 6 Europe-based enterprises and 3 Taiwanese enterprises, in addition to one Australia-based enterprise, one Singapore-based enterprise, one Hong Kong-based enterprise and one Mainland China-based enterprise) entered into LOI with Ministry of Economic Affairs. 13 enterprises out of these enterprises committed to capital increase and the remaining 14 enterprises committed to new investment projects. The total investment amounted to about NT$108.25 billion and more than 12,900 employment opportunities were expected to be created thereof.
According to HP, it would not only upgrade its regional R&D center in the territory of Taiwan to a global innovation center by escalating investment in Taiwan, but also transform Taiwan to be HP’s important R&D base in the world. Meanwhile, it would continue working with the local academic and research organizations intensively. The renowned European micron-nano and semi-conductor R&D organization, IMEC, also indicated that it would ally with Taiwan’s medical electronic technology industry and help reprocess 8-inch wafer. The U.S.-based enterprise, Super Micro, looking forward to Taiwan's potential optimistically upon conclusion of ECFA, was going to invest the GREEN Energy industry in Taiwan. Meanwhile, the financial service provider, Spain-based BBVA, which has been developing its business in Taiwan for four years, also expected the opportunity upon conclusion of ECFA and decided to expand its business in Taiwan by establishing domestic banking unit (DBU, designated foreign exchange bank by the Central Bank) and offshore banking unit (OBU, handling international finance matters) to engage in providing assistance in investment and more financial services for Taiwanese enterprises' layout in the Latin America market. Meanwhile, the cultural creative industry of Taiwan also caught the international investors’ eyes. For example, Kadokawa Shoten Publishing Co., Ltd. would ally with Taiwan’s cultural creative and high-tech industries to develop the business of e-books and digital contents.
