Chen Tien-En Piracy Syndicate Fined NT$152 Million.

In 2003, Microsoft initiated a criminal action against the Chen Tien-En Piracy Syndicate, a multi-national syndicate astonishing the international and across 13 countries, together with a supplementary civil action claiming the damages in the amount of NT$362.81 million. (Judgment rendered by IP Court under case No. 98-Chong-Fu-Min-Shang-3 against criminal action with incidental civil action [2009])

According to the judgment rendered by the IP court, defendant Chen Tien-En, Pou Chen International Co., Ltd. and Pou Tung International Co., Ltd., as well as the four managers who worked for them, shall pay the damages in the amount of over NT$152.56 million, plus the interest accruing at 5% annual interest from 2005 until the date of payment.

The judgment indicates that defendants Chen Tien-En, Pou Tung International Company, general manager of Pou Chen -- Xu Xian-Tang, and Chan Sheng Electronics – Liu Zuo-Sheng shall, jointly and severally, pay Microsoft over NT$38.14 million.  In addition, defendant Pou Chen shall also, jointly and severally, pay Microsoft over NT$38.14 million, and business manager of Pou Chen -- Liu Yan-Hong shall, jointly and severally, pay Microsoft over NT$76.28 million.  (2011.01)
