E140124Y1・E140124Z1 Feb. 2014(E171)
According to Bloomberg’s global innovation survey, Taiwan is placed in the 10th position in the overall ability to innovate out of the 215 countries around the world and in the 4th position in Asia, following South Korea, Japan, and Singapore. Taiwan’s number of patents tops the world to take the first place in the ranking of patent activity. In addition to patent activity, Taiwan comes in second in high-tech density and tertiary efficiency.
Among the over 200 countries evaluated, South Korea is the most innovative country in the world with the highest total score, ahead of Sweden, the United States, Japan, Germany, Denmark, Singapore, Switzerland, Finland, and Taiwan, but it does not lead in any of the seven factors assessed in the survey. China, however, comes in 25th in the overall innovation rankings.
Bloomberg conducts and compiles this survey by reference of the statistics released by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and makes the rankings by weighing the following seven gauge factors, R&D intensity, manufacturing capability, productivity, high-tech density, researcher concentration, tertiary efficiency, and patent activity.
