The U.S. uncovered the biggest software piracy over the years

 The U.S. law-enforcement officials announced on 16th that they had uncovered the biggest software piracy in the U.S. history and they seized nearly 31,000 copies of counterfeit Microsoft Windows operation system and over 4,000 user’s manual for Windows XP operation system which was newly made available in the market by Microsoft.  There were also copies of antivirus software - Symantec products. The total seized products are worth US$100 million.  The U.S. police authority clearly indicated that the container which carried the aforementioned pirated software products came from Taipei, Taiwan.

 Concerning the above U.S. biggest pirated software bust, Shih Mao-Lin, Chief Prosecutor of Taipei District Prosecutor’s Office instructed last night (17th) to handle the matter as the most urgent case and to ask the Taipei City Investigation Field Office of the Investigation Bureau and the Criminal Police Bureau to form an ad hoc committee to thoroughly examine the counterfeiting syndicate in Taiwan.

 According to the preliminary information provided by the U.S., the offenses involved in this matter are likely to be against the Copyright Law, the Trademark Law, the Criminal Law for forgery and the Integrated Circuit Layout Protection Act, etc.
