The WTO’s 4th Ministerial Conference taking place in Qatar has formally adopted the agreement of Taiwan’s entry to WTO and approved Taiwan’s entry application on November 11, 2001.  The Legislative Yuan immediately passed the “application of Taiwan’s entry to WTO” and submitted the same for approval by the President.

President Chen Shui-bian signed and approved the “application of Taiwan’s entry to WTO” and “written approval for the entry agreements of Taiwan’s application for entry to WTO” yesterday.  According to the WTO’s entry protocols, after completion of domestic approval procedures, Taiwan should inform the WTO Secretariat of its acceptance of the entry agreements and then will become a formal member of the WTO 30 days after the Secretariat’s receipt of Taiwan’s confirmation.
