In response to Taiwan’s entry to the WTO, the Legislative Yuan has passed the Third Reading of the CD administrative bill, which became effective November 16.  It is estimated that CD makers will have to register the SID code with the Industrial Development Bureau of the MOEA in the early next year.  Those who fail to register will be prohibited from importing CD manufacturing equipment.  With the implementation of the CD administrative bill, the pirated CDs makers will be punished by the said bill and the Copyright Law at the same time.  Consequently, the sentence imposed by the court on convicted pirates may be as long as 1-3 years.
