Asian Telecom Operators Form Asia NFC Alliance

Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom announced, jointly with KDDI (Japan), SK Planet (South Korea), HKT (Hong Kong), the formation of the Asia NFC Alliance at the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, Spain on February 25, 2014. 

LIN Kuo-Feng, the chairman of the Asia NFC Alliance and the general manager of Mobile Business Branch, Chunghwa Telecom indicated that the aim of forming the Asia NFC Alliance is to create a cross-border and seamless connection of the existing NFC services provided in Alliance member countries.  In addition to the participation of major telecom operators in Asia, the GSMA is delighted to support the Asia NFC Alliance to create and develop the NFC ecosystem beyond national borders.

With the formation of the Asia NFC Alliance, Taiwan consumers will be able to access the convenience mobile NFC services that are offered across-national borders in a variety of applications in traveling information downloading, coupon, room reservation, ticket reservation, etc. in Asian countries. 

The Asia NFC Alliance has also set three-stage development goals:  to develop international compatibility of NFC technology, to serve as an information platform for NFC development, and finally to seek and attract more members from the industry to fulfill the ultimate goal of facilitating the maturity and creation of the NFC service and collaboration in providing a border-less mobile NFC service in Asian countries.  (February 2014)
