TJPO and Wakayama Prefecture Signed MOU

Taiwan-Japan local industrial cooperation takes a huge step forward.  With the deputy director general of the Industrial Development Bureau of MOEA (Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs), Mr. LEU Jang-Hwa’s and Wakayama Prefecture Governor Mr. Nisaka’s witnessing, the TJPO (Taiwan Japan Industrial Collaboration Promotion Office) and Wakayama Prefecture signed the MOU on February 27, 2014, which is the second MOU after that signed between the TJPO and Mie Prefecture.  In the MOU, both sides agree to work together mainly in manufacturing industry with the mechanical industry selected as the priority target for collaboration.  Both sides also have agreed to expand the scope of cooperation according to their mutual demand. 

The Taiwan MOEA has established the TJPO as a platform for industrial collaboration between Taiwan and Japan with collaborative connections having been successfully established between the TJPO and 27 Japanese local governments and industrial organizations.  Sharing the same collaborative vision with Japanese local governments, the TJPO will keep seeking cooperation with other Japanese local governments and organizations.

Subsequent to the MOU signing between the TJPO and Wakayama prefecture, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan, Interchange Association Japan, the TJPO, and JETRO (the Japan External Trade Organization) also jointly held a Taiwan-Japan Industrial Collaboration Seminar on March 12, 2014 in order to enhance mutual understanding of Taiwanese and Japanese industries. 

According to the Industrial Development Bureau of MOEA, there are a lot of enterprises incorporated in Wakayama Prefecture which are influential and important both in Japan and in the world, including Shima Seiki that has the highest market share by its computerized knitting machines, Wakayama Seika Kogyo Co., Ltd. that makes and supplies 80% of the world’s high performance polymer materials, and NAKANO BC Co., Ltd. that produces 80% of beverage made from plums in Japan.  The Industrial Development Bureau believes that Taiwan can fulfill competitiveness upgrading by working with Japan’s small and medium enterprises.  (February 2014)
