Taiwan’s ITRI Unveiled World’s First OCP Certification Center

Taiwan’s ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute) has formally set up the world’s first OCP (Open Compute Project) Certification Testing Center on March 3, 2014 and celebrated the opening at the OCP Taiwan Forum on March 4, 2014. 

The worldwide well-known tech giant, Facebook, and other famous cloud service providers, RiotGames and Datahotel were all invited to the Forum to share their experiences in OCP establishment and maintenance.  Other world-renowned providers, such as Quanta Computer Inc., Wiwynn Corporation, Intel, Microsoft, Hyve, and Mellanox were also invited to present their opinions on the current OCP development and future tendency in the world.  Besides, the MOU has also been signed by and between the Open Compute Project Taiwan and Open Compute Project Japan to contribute to the spread of OCP in the Asia-Pacific region. 

Initiated by Facebook in 2011 as a non-profit organization, the OPC Foundation has been promoting the cloud data center of “high performance” and “low power consumption” and the OCP has become an important specification standard in the global cloud computing sector.  ITRI, under the auspices of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), has been developing sufficient software and hardware expertise of cloud systems, laying a firm foundation for Taiwan’s local cloud data centers to offer comprehensive solutions, and also working with local information technology firms to partake in international cloud industry.  In November 2013, the OCP Foundation formally approved ITRI to establish the world’s first OCP certification center.  It is expected that Taiwan will be able to meet the demand for cloud data centers worldwide, branch into the sector’s international supply chain, and become an international powerhouse in this field by taking advantage of the ITRI’s superior verification technologies, non-profit organization status, and its geographic advantages in the Asia Pacific.  (March 2014)
