2014 Taipei INST as a Presentation Platform of More Than 2000 Exhibits

The 2014 Taipei International Invention Show and Technomart (Taipei INST) had been held during September 18~21, 2014 at Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall 1, which marks its 10th anniversary.  This year, almost 1,000 booths were arranged to display more than 2,000 inventive products and patented technologies presented by local and foreign exhibitors from 22 other foreign countries. 

The Taipei INST 2014 comprised three major exhibition zones, the “Domestic and Foreign Invention Area”, “Technomart Area”, and “Patented Merchandise Area”, and the “Domestic and Foreign Invention Area” included the “Domestic Invention Area”, “Overseas Invention Area”, and “TIPO Innovation Invention Area”.  A total of 16 countries took part in this competition with a total of 929 inventions and inventive products.  In addition, there were 15 winners of the Platinum Awards, the highest honor of Taipei INST.  Also, 153 gold medals, 153 silver medals, and 201 bronze medals were awarded.  For the tenth anniversary of the Taipei INST, some internationally renowned inventors and professionals, such as, Mr. Mark Sheahan from the U.K.’s “Institute of Patentees and Inventors” and Mr. Takeshi Sasaki, the vice president of the “Japan Intellectual Property Association”, and other industry leaders had been invited to serve as judges in the competition to make the competition more international and to enhance its credibility. 

Inventions presented in the “Domestic Invention Area” were from the Taipei University of Technology, National Central University, and other schools as well as well-known companies, such as, Chunghwa Telecom, etc.  The “Overseas Invention Area” featured invention organizations and inventors from 15 countries, including Poland, South Korea and Thailand, etc.  The “TIPO Innovation Invention Area” showcased 45 exhibits which were handpicked out of the more than 400 Taiwanese gold-winning inventions in international invention shows in 2013. 

The “Patented Merchandise Area” displayed inventions that have already been commercialized, presenting to visitors the convenience brought by new inventions to people’s daily lives. 

In addition, the “Technomart Area” co-organized by five governmental ministries were divided into 13 theme pavilions and showcased the achievements of outstanding technologies resulting from government-sponsored researches.  Also, 20 well-known industry-academia-research institutes and technology trading entities from 9 countries including the U.S., the U.K. and Hungary were invited to present their works in the “Technomart Area” this year.  During the exhibition, 10 business matchmaking sessions and symposiums were also held.  To provide information with respect to patent industrialization and commercialization, the Taiwan IPO and the Industrial Development Bureau co-organized the “Invention & Patent Industrialization Consulting Service Section” by integrating the professional consultants and resources provided by the Ministry of Education, the Council of Agriculture, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Bureau of Energy, the Small and Medium Enterprise Administration, and the Department of Industrial Technology, and also established stations at the National Development Council, Gre Tai Securities Market, and the Bureau of Foreign Trade to provide consulting information and answer related inquiries.  There were more than 94,000 visitors and buyers participating in this invention event and it was expected to create business opportunities and allow Taiwanese inventions to glow.
