MOEA Trade Delegation Successfully Seeks Investment from the US

In an effort to boost foreign investment and industrial upgrading, a trade delegation organized by the Department of Investment Services under the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan departed for New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco in the US to seek out business opportunities. 

With a focus on the biomedical industry and ICT industry of the US and to sell significant economic development projects, such as, smart cities and aerotropolis, the delegation visited 8 companies that hold key technologies; they are Celgene, Johnson & Johnson, Google, Lam Research, S-Cubed, Keysight Technology, IBM, and HDR, etc..  The trade mission was successful because 4 of the visited 8 companies agreed to sign LOI with the delegation and 1 of them also signed a MOU with Taoyuan County Government.  It is expected that there will be an investment amount of more than USD200 million to be poured into Taiwan market over the future three years.

To satisfy the needs of enterprise operation and research and development in Taiwan, the delegation also tried to seek talents from the US by providing 117 job openings and then successfully caused 83 cases of job matching.  The delegation was composed of representatives from 32 high-tech companies, including Taiwan Semiconuctor Manufacturing Corp., MediaTek Inc., United Microelectronics Corp. and AU Optronics Corp. etc.. The recruited US talents are expected to drive up domestic innovative energy. 

According to the Department of Investment Services, efforts will continue to seek out investment in key industries from foreign enterprises holding key technologies by organizing trade delegation and holding business matching fairs, etc.  (October 2014)
