Taiwan Delegation Scores 53 Medals at Geneva Exhibition in 2015

At the 2015 International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva, Switzerland, Taiwan delegation won a total of 53 medals, including 26 gold, 16 silver, and 11 bronze, and 7 Taiwanese inventions won the gold and special awards at the same time.  Most of the Taiwanese inventions are characterized by environmental and energy-saving functions.  Here are the award-winning inventions presented by Taiwan inventors. 

Kainan High School of Commerce and Industry invented a “plant security system” which is a gold-winning interactive device that is able to automatically activate alarms or audio tones when a person comes within 4 meters of a plant by applying the electricity conductivity of a plant. 

Another gold winner is Homeway Technology Co., Ltd. which developed the “breathable pads containing deep sea minerals and herbal extracts”.  The most special characteristic of this invention is that it has a water absorption capacity 38 times greater than that of the other general sanitary napkins sold on market because it has far infrared ray composite materials and composite fiber of polymers of leakage-prevention materials. 

National Chin-Yi University of Technology presented another gold-winning invention, “a water-saving urinal”.  The urinal is cleaned with atomized water, which not only strengthens cleaning efficiency and increases cleaning area with an adjustable spray nozzle but also reduces water consumption from 1,200 ml of flushing water to 300 ml each time, a 75% decrease compared with a conventional urinal. 

Far East University also won a gold medal for their invention of a negative-pressure nail-polishing device with the appearance of a transparent, semi-spherical box with three holes that allows people to polish their nails in a confined and hygienic space to avoid toxic fumes emitted by nail polishing.

Pancycle International Co.,Ltd’s “sandwich hot cup” took home another award from the exhibition.   The “sandwich hot cup” is a biodegradable cup with excellent thermal insulation for hot and cold drinks.  It is a multi-walled hot cup that comprises a PE or PLA foaming paper cup body made from corn and other plants to form its thermal insulation function, representing the only successful thermo-resistant cup without a cup sleeve around the world.  This cup is thermal resistant up to 100 °C and patents have been granted for this invention in 45 countries and there are more than 20 million sandwich hot cups sold in a year.

Other inventions recognized by an award include the “carbon-free motor oil” developed by Taipei Chengshih University of Science and Technology and TYN Lubrication Technology, which is characterized by its low rate of pollution, acid-resistance, heat-resistance, and free of noxious substances, including cadmium, lead, mercury, and polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), and its functions of increasing the combustion rate of fuel oil and reducing exhaust emission.  Also, Cotron Corporation won an award for their invention of “electric conductive disphragm speaker”, which is able to fulfill the original performance without the two lead wires connecting the voice coil and terminal plate.  (April 2015)
