E151002Y3 Nov. 2015(E192)

The Third Company of Criminal Investigation Brigade under the Second Special Police Corps acted upon a report to initiate a raid action on a local educational institution located in Tainan, Taiwan which allegedly provided unlicensed operating and graphics software to students and teachers for their use, and thus seized therefrom more than 300 unlicensed copies of software, including 279 unlicensed copies of Microsoft, 23 unlicensed copies of Autodesk, and 3 computers.  These seized items involved the estimated value of almost TWD6 million in total.

Mainly engaged in the business of vocational training in Tainan, Taiwan, the said educational institution has undertaken occupational training projects commissioned by the local government and also educational training courses commissioned by local small and medium sized enterprises, for which the said institution has received awards for the excellent vocational training service provider and the outstanding enterprise conferred by relevant governmental agencies.  During the raid action, the responsible person of the said educational institution alleged that the software they used was legally licensed, and the allegation however contradicts the fact that many computers at the site were found installed with the software of the same one serial number.  The foregoing makes it clear that the said educational institution is suspected of committing the offense of illegal reproduction as defined by the Taiwan Copyright Act.  (October 2015)
