On October 22, 2015, Taiwan’s Commerce Development Research Institute (“Taiwan CDRI”), represented by the president, HSIEH Lung-Fa, signed an MOU with Japan’s Institute of Developing Economies Japan External Trade Organization (“IDE-JETRO”), represented by the director SHIRAISHI Takashi with an aim to bolster industrial development through mutual cooperation, and jointly held an international forum on Taiwan-Japan exchange.  Signing of the MOU marks a new milestone of Taiwan’s cooperation with international think tank.

Chairman, HSU Chung-Jen indicated in the international forum that he is optimistic about the business opportunities in Taiwan-Japan joint ventures with respect to aging population and tourist industries.  For example, the Dental Support, a pioneer in on-site dentistry, is offered by Japanese enterprises to solve the aging population’s difficulty in hospitalization and/or visit to hospitals.  Also, Nagoya’s local traditional festivals are jointly held by the local government, the relevant enterprises, and students to drive up business development, enhance land identification, and further attract tourists, and ultimately fulfill regional revitalization.  In addition, Japan’s Club Tourism also provides tours to overseas visitors on specific themes to satisfy their needs.  There is no market saturation but only redistribution.

HSIEH Lung-Fa, president of CDRI, suggested that the two sides should be and will be engaged in substantive cooperation in research projects and seminars in the next two years so as to have interchange of knowledge and local connections and also to establish an alliance with mutual benefit and resource sharing.  (October 2015)
