Taiwan Association of Information and Communication Standards (TAICS) signed a letter of intent with the US-based Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) by their respective representative signatory, Mr. Jonathan Tsang, chairman of TAICS and Mr. Scott Belcher, CEO of TIA, on September 29, 2016 under the witness of MOEA and AIT (American Institute in Taiwan).  The TAICS-TIA partnership is to open the door for both sides’ developing 5G and IoT (Internet of Things) standards and also pave the way for Taiwan’s joining the US-led Advanced Wireless Research Initiative (AWRI).

With support of the government and the industry, TAICS has inked memorandums of cooperation with the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), the Next Generation Mobile Networks (NGMN), the Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB), and the Telecommunication Technology Committee (TTC) to promote the development of 5G-related technologies, and now with the letter of intent signed with TIA, Taiwan also extends its 5H partnership with the US.  The letter of intent also marks the opening of a significant chapter for the two countries’ cooperation in the 5G area.  Based on the foundation of cooperation in ICT industry, both sides will strengthen their exchanges and connections between international and regional standards and further push for Taiwanese industry’s participation in the AWRI’s four city-scale testing platform.  (September 2016)
