Taiwan bags 44 medals at iENA Nuremberg 2016

Taiwan team submitted a total of 51 inventions to the 2016 iENA International Trade Fair in Nuremberg, Germany, one of the world’s top three international invention exhibitions, and has won 44 medals including 18 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze medals, which represents Taiwan’s best performance in recent five years.  

Student inventors from Taiwan team shined at the fair by presenting 10 entries and bringing home 6 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals, a very positive result indicating that students’ creation and technical capability should not and cannot be underestimated.  One of the gold-winning inventions from Taiwanese student inventors is a theft-proof hook invented by GAO, Zi-Ting, a junior high school student from Keelung Municipal Ming Chwan Junior High School.  Like a hanger for hanging bags from the table, this hook is equipped with alarm siren and warning light and also an internal automatic pressure switch, and the alarm siren and the warning light will automatically go off when the objects on the hook disappear or lose weight (in case of being stolen).  

Another gold-winning entry is a fire starter, presented by a student BAI, Zhao-Rong of Taipei Municipal Min Sheng Junior High School who indicated that her invention is able to switch kinetic power to electric power and further to cause ignition for an instant simply by shaking it, an invention being able to serve as a life support that completely avoids gas running out from a lighter or flint problems.  

College students from Taiwan did not let other inventors steal the show, either.  TU, Ming-Ze and CHEN, Jun-Cheng of Fu Jen Catholic University invent an award-winning product that combines Taipei Metro’s EasyCard touch-and-go ticketing system and umbrella stand as a theft-proof umbrella stand.  Like YouBike, a card is able to lock and unlock an umbrella stand by inputting the EasyCard info into the special readout system.  

Other noteworthy gold winners include a hydrogen-rich water maker, invented by SHU, Jing-Yuan and HUANG, Hong-Jie of Taipei City University of Science and Technology, which invention is able to make alkaline water having a PH value at 9 and further it has anti-aging function and is mainly provided to doctors or cancer patients.  Now this invention has been commercialized in the US.  (October 2016)
