TSMC and Hon Hai Precision appear on the 2016 list of global innovators

Thomson Reuters released the 2016 State of Innovation Study to name the global innovators of the year.  Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. (“Hon Hai”), Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (“TSMC”), National Chiao Tung University, and National Cheng Kung University each got an entry in the global leading innovators list.  

According to the study, Hon Hai is the only Taiwan-based company appearing on the list of and ranking 10th in the category of “Top 10 Smart-Media Innovators – Asia (2011-2015)”, while Japan was the biggest winner in this category with six Japanese enterprises breaking into the list.  National Chiao Tung University took the 9th position in the category of “Most Prolific Scientific Research Institutions in Semiconductors (2005-2015)”.  China’s University of Chinese Academy of Sciences claimed the top honor and four universities of Japan, including the University of Tokyo, were also named in this category.  In the category of “Most Prolific Scientific Research Institutions in Home Appliances (2005-2015)”, National Cheng Kung University came in 3rd.  

In addition, TSMC won the recognition in the category of “Top 10 Global Innovators – Semiconductors (2015)” and “Top 10 Semiconductor Materials & Processes Innovators – Asia (2011-2015)”, ranking No. 6 and No. 5, respectively.  Samsung Electronics topped the category, providing the highest volume of new innovation.  

The study analyzes and tracks global patent and scientific literature data, including patent applications and scientific literature publications around the world, and serves as the leading innovative index in the twelve areas of technologies.  (May 2016)
